Description

Key Characters:

Growth Form: Trees 2–4 m tall.

Stems: young stems and apical buds pubescent

Roots:

Leaves: alternate Leaves oblanceolate to obovate Lower leaf surfaces sparsely puberulent, especially along lower 1/3–1/2 portion of midrib on young leaves. Margins entire or slightly crenate/undulate

Flowers: Heads on stout puberulent peduncles 8–13 mm long; involucre in 6 –7 series, dusty pink at anthesis, inner bracts 2.7–2.9 cm; middle bracts 4 –5 cm wide. Pappus pale pink to light brown. Corollas 2.5–3 cm long.

Fruit: Fruit a simple; dry; achene (cypsela);

Ploidy:

Habitat: Wet forests on West Maui and one population on the Oloku‘i sea cliffs

Elevation Range: 350–780 m
