Leaves: Leaves simple. Leaves in whorls of 3 per node. Margins entire. Midvein prominent abaxially, lateral veins numerous, parallel. Petiolate. Stipules absent or vestigial.

Flowers: Flowers in inflorescences corymbose, terminal. Flowers bisexual (perfect), 5– [or 4]-merous, actinomorphic. Calyx of 5 sepals. Corolla of 5 petals, funnelform, cylindric near base, throat open, wide, lobes overlapping to right; corona segments 5, petal-like, large, fringed. Stamens 5, inserted at apex of corolla tube; filaments short; anthers sagittate, with a bristly, filiform apical appendage, pilose, connivent, adherent to pistil head; disc absent. Pollen granular. Ovary superior, 2, distinct; ovules numerous in each locule; styles 1; stigma at pistil base, apex 2-cleft and not stigmatic.

Fruit: Follicles united until just before dehiscence. Seeds numerous; densely pilose; coma at truncate apex; endosperm thick; radicle terete (cylindrical).
