Description

Key Characters:

Growth Form: Rhizomatous perennial herbs, usually branched at base.

Leaves: Leaves in a basal rosette or distributed up to 16 cm along the ascending stem spatulate, oblong, obovate to oblanceolate, (1.5-)3-6.9 cm long, 0.4-1.3(-1.9) cm wide sessile and + clasping the stem, with l-13 bracts per scape that usually become progressively larger and more leaf-like toward base sparsely glandular pubescent on margins and veins, upper surface sometimes sparsely to moderately villous, lower surface usually glabrous Margins margins coarsely serrate or sometimes dentate in upper 1/2, usually 5 opposite pairs and 1 apical tooth, the teeth up to 2 mm long, sometimes purple at the tip
