Surfaces of basal leaves glabrous.
Margins of basal leaves dentate and usually also lobed, sometimes pinnatifid; cauline leaves margins crenate to dentate.

Flowers in elongate racemes, 1 per node, pedicels 10–20(–25) mm long.
Flowers bisexual (perfect).
Calyx deeply 5-lobed, the lobes equal, 5–8 mm long, the lobes lanceolate, glandular pubescent.
Corolla slightly zygomorphic, 5-lobed, upper 2 lobes slightly shorter than and overlapping the lower 3 lobes in bud, yellow, rarely white and purplish toward base, ca. 15 mm long, tube short.
Stamens 5, upper 3 staminal filaments densely villous with white or violet colored hairs, the lower 2 violet villous; anthers monothecal.
Ovary superior, 2-carpellate, with as many cells; ovule placentation axile; style solitary, terminal; stigma capitate.
Fruit:
Capsules globose; (5–)7–8 mm long; glandular puberulent.
Seeds numerous; obconical; with thick; undulate; longitudinal ribs; endosperm oily.
