Description

Key Characters:

Growth Form: Annual herbs.

Stems: Stems erect or ascending, 0.5–2(–3) dm long, glandular pubescent or glabrous.

Roots:

Leaves: Leaves simple. Opposite, inflorescence Alternate. Blades oblong to narrowly oblanceolate, 5–15(–20) mm long, 1.5–5 mm wide. Surfaces glabrous or densely glandular-hairy. Margins entire to remotely crenulate–serrulate, sessile or attenuate. Sessile. Stipules absent.

Flowers: Flowers solitary in the upper leaf axils, forming a terminal raceme. Flowers bisexual (perfect); Pedicels 0.5–1.5 mm long, bracts oblong. Calyx 3–6 mm long, the lobes subequal, narrowly elliptic or narrowly lanceolate, glandular pubescent or glabrous. Corolla inconspicuous, whitish, ca. 1–1.5 mm long. Stamens 2. Ovary superior, 2-carpellate, with as many cells; ovule placentation axile; stigma capitate.

Fruit: Capsules obcordate; compressed; 3–4(–4.5) mm long; 3.5–4.5(–5) mm wide; the notch 0.2–0.5 mm deep; glabrous or glandular pubescent. Seeds numerous; 0.5– 1 mm long.

Ploidy: 2n = 52

Habitat: Naturalized in dry to wet iueas such as pastures or disturbed areas in mesic forest.

Elevation Range: ca. 1,220 m.
