Growing in cloud forest on ledge covered in a rich bryophyte community with Vaccinium dentatum, Sadleria cyatheoides, Luzula hawaiiensis ssp. oahuensis, Eragrostis fosbergii, Diplazium sandwichianum, Metrosideros tremuloides, Philonotis sullivantii, Campylopus, and others. |

Leaves round to braodly ovate. Basal cells rectangular with large trigones, distal cells smaller with acute trigones. Plants mostly unbranched but infrequently branched near the tips on some stems. Plants mat forming but occasionally with stems sticking out of other bryophyte colonies. |
