Flowers: Terminal and axillary spikes; thyrsoid perfect ,unisexual, or dioecious; tribracteate; small Tepals 5; errect; wooly; ovate or oblong; membranous or papery; 1 veined Stamens 5; connate cup at the base; alternating (sometimes) with staminodes; anthers 2-loculed Ovary superior, obovoid or subglobose; glabrous to wooly; style short, persistent with 2 stigma branches; stigma capitate sometimes appearing unbranched.

Fruit: Utricles ovoid; indehiscent or irregularly dehiscent. Seeds reniform-orbicular; lenticular; compressed; seed coat crustaceous.
