Leaves: Leaves simple. Spirally arranged. Surfaces often coriaceous and lustrous. Margins entire. Petiolate or sessile. Stipules absent.

Flowers: Flowers in axillary or terminal cymes or racemes. Flowers bisexual (perfect). Calyx 5-lobed, bearing squamelle within. Corolla 5-lobed, white, cream-orange to pinkish yellow, salverform to funnelform, the mouth closed by 5 appendages, attached above and opposite the stamens. Stamens 5, not exserted. Ovary superior; 2-lobed, 2-celled; ovules 2 per cell.

Fruit: Fruit drupaceous; rhomboid. Seeds 2–4 per fruit.
