Description

Key Characters:

Growth Form: Woody liana.

Stems: Branches sparsely pubescent, with adpressed to erect hairs.

Roots:

Leaves: Leaves compound (trifoliate). Alternate. Lamina of the apical leaflet 10.5–14 × 5.5–8.5 cm, elliptic, rounded at base, acute at apex, that of the lateral leaflets 12–14.7 × 8–10 cm, basally and medially asymmetric, the abaxial surface of all laminas densely sericeous, with the hairs 0.1–0.2 cm, the adaxial surface more sparsely so, with shorter hairs; venation eucamptodromous, with the secondary veins 4–7–paired. Leaflet apices acute to weakly acuminate. Leafet bases rounded to weakly cordate at base. Lower surfaces of all laminas densely sericeous, with hairs 0.1–0.2 cm, upper surface more sparsely so, with shorter hairs. Leaflet margins entire. Petioles 8.5–12 cm, sericeous; rachis 2.5–3.5 cm, sericeous, stipellate between leaflet pairs and at apex; stipels 0.5–0.8 cm, linear; petiolules 0.5–0.7 cm, dense–sericeous. Stipules present 0.7–1 cm, triangular, silvery–sericeous, caducous; stipellate between leaflet pairs and at apex; stipels 0.5–0.8 cm, linear.

Flowers: Flowers in inflorescence a pseudoraceme, pendent; peduncle 4–8 cm, densely golden–sericeous; rachis 10–13 cm; bracts 1.6–2.1 × 0.5 cm, sericeous; bracteoles c. 3.5 × 2.5 cm, densely sericeous; pedicels paired at nodes, c. 1 cm, sericeous, more densely so than on peduncle; nodes 7–12 per inflorescence; internodes c. 1–2 cm. Flowers papilionaceous; 4–5 cm long. Calyx campanulate, 2.5–3 cm long, bilabiate, sericeous on both surfaces, the external surface with hairs of two lengths, lobes 4, the 2 adaxial ones connate, 1–2 cm. Corolla of 5 petals, reportedly yellow; standard 3.5–4 cm long, showy, variously colored, standard shorter than other petals, wings incurved, stiffened at apex, basally auriculate, apically rounded, the claw 0.1 cm; wing petals 4.5–5 cm long, attenuate at base, weakly acute at apex, basally pubescent, the claw 0.2–0.3 cm; keel petals 4–5 cm, attenuate at base, acute at apex, basally pubescent, the claw 0.1 cm. Stamens 4.5–5 cm long, glabrous; anthers 0.2–0.3 cm, basifixed, the connective tomentose, upper stamen distinct, the other 9 connate into a tube; anthers, dimorphic, 5 larger ones subbasifixed, alternating with 5 shorter anthers. Ovary superior, sessile 4–5 cm long, densely sericeous, except the glabrous apex, the hairs long; ovary 8 × 2 mm, oblong; ovules few; style 3.2 – 4.2 cm, filiform, glabrous apically; stigma small, terminal.
