Description

Key Characters:

Growth Form: Perennial herbs with colorless sap.

Stems: Stems glaucous, branched, forming bushy clumps.

Roots:

Leaves: Leaves simple. Alternate. Blades ternately cleft into numerous linear–elliptic lobes. Long-petiolate. Stipules absent.

Flowers: Flowers solitary, terminal. Flowers bisexual (perfect), actinomorphic. Calyx of 2 sepals; sepals distinct, caducous. Corolla of 4(5) petals; petals dark yellow, distinct. Stamens ca. 70, orange, distinct; filaments filiform; anthers dithecal, opening by longitudinal slits. Ovary superior,1-celled, oblong–elliptic, longitudinally 10–ribbed; ovule placentation parietal; stigma peltate, subsessile.

Fruit: Capsules dehiscing by 2 valves from base upward. Seeds numerous; subglobose; rugose; small; endosperm oily.
