Growth Form: Climbing shrubs.

Stems: Stems short–pilose to glabrate.

Roots:

Leaves: Leaves simple. Alternate. Blades ovate to broadly ovate or elliptic, 3–8 cm long, 2–4.8 cm wide. Apex acute to short-acuminate or rarely obtuse. Base cordate to shallowly cordate. Upper surfaces moderately to sparsely appressed pilose; lower surfaces more densely appressed pilose primarily along veins, green on upper surface, chartaceous. Margins coarsely crenate to serrate–dentate, the teeth with a blunt glandular apex. Pinnately veined, with 3–5 conspicuous veins spreading from base. Petioles 0.5–1.5 cm long. Stipules ovate, 2.5–4 mm long, caducous.

Flowers: Flowers in spicate inflorescences 8–70 mm long. densely rusty short–pilose throughout, on short lateral branches with 1–2 leaves and stiff, revolute tendrils in the lower axils of the flowering branch, bracts ovate, 2.5–3 mm long. Flowers bisexual (perfect) or functionally unisexual, actinomorphic. Calyx of 5 sepals, Sepals ca. 1–1.1 mm long. Corolla of 5 petals, white, ca. 0.7–1 mm long. Stamens 5, opposite the petals; filaments distinct, adnate to base of petals. Ovary inferior, 3(4)-celled; ovules 1 per cell, basal and erect, anatropous; style deeply 3-lobed.

Fruit: Fruit ca. 9–10 mm long; 2–3–winged; the wings 2.5–3 mm wide; extending to base; tomentose; tardily separating into 3 mericarps. Seeds dark brown; glossy; ovoid; 3.5–4 mm long.
