Leaves: Leaves simple. Alternate. Blades leathery. Margins entire. Petiolate. Stipules intrapetiolar, subtending the axillary bud, caducous.

Flowers: Flowers in terminal panicles. Flowers bisexual (perfect), actinomorphic. Calyx of 5 distinct sepals; sepals imbricate. Corolla of 5 petals, distinct, imbricate, adnate to base of sepals. Stamens 5, opposite and adnate to petals at base, alternating with 5 petaloid staminodes; anthers dithecal, opening by longitudinal slits. Ovary superior, 2-carpellate, 1 carpel often reduced or vestigial; ovule 1, pendulous, anatropous.

Fruit: Drupes. Seeds 1 per fruit; endosperm absent.
