Taprooted annual herbs 15-20cm tall, branching sparsely at ground level and near branch tips, stems tough and almost woody filiform (0-,5mm diam.) lobes tipped with a tiny translucent awn, margins minutely ciliate-scabrid. Capitulae terminal, solitary, long-pedunculate (5-7 cm long x 0.5mm diam.). Peduncle with 4-6 mm bracteoles scattered along its length and 1 or 2 more at the base of the involucre, glabrous.
