Leaves: Leaves compound (even-pinnate and some leaves at base of branches bipinnate). Alternate. Petiolate. Stipules spine-like or small and caducous.

Flowers: Flowers in axillary, short racemes, bracts minute. Flowers caesalpinaceous; bracteoles absent. Calyx tube short, the 5 lobes nearly distinct, imbricate in bud, deciduous. Corolla of 5 petals, yellow, subequal, imbricate. Stamens 10; filaments distinct, pilose at base; anthers basifixed, opening by lateral or introrse slits. Ovary superior, shortly stalked; ovules 2-3; style filiform; stigma terminal, capitate.

Fruit: Pods lanceoloid or oblong–ellipsoid; thin and membranous; compressed; dehiscent only along median ridges into 2 boat–shaped parts; not along the sutures. Seeds 1–2; transversely oblong.
